Can I use a laptop?

Can I use other TCP/IP programs?
Any standard TCP/IP software will work with the CMA network, and appropriate configuration parameters will be made available.
What Web browsers does CMA support?
CMA currently supports Netscape Communicator and Internet Explorer.
Does the CMA service include chat and newsgroup options?
Yes, CMA service offers access to both chat rooms and newsgroups on the Internet.
Cable Network:
Can I watch TV and use CMA at the same time?
Yes. You can surf the Web, watch TV and talk on the phone, all at the same time.
If I don't subscribe to cable, can I still get CMA?
Yes. Contact your local cable company for details.
Will the Cable Co. install new cable in my neighbourhood?
No. CMA uses existing cable lines.
I want CMA and I already have a cable outlet. Is it still necessary to install another line?
Yes. You'll still need a second cable outlet. The cable connection to a cable modem is a dedicated outlet wired from the box outside your house to the modem. The outlet has been carefully tested by the cable installer for any possible problems that would interfere with your CMA service but would never affect your normal television reception.
How does the cable modem connect to my computer?
The cable modem is an external device that connects to your computer's 10-base T Ethernet port.
How can I get cable from the TV in my living room to the PC in my bedroom?
Since both data and television signals travel on the same physical cable, you require a cable splitter to provide multiple connections. To avoid the potential of introducing noise to the system, a cable technician will install the splitter and cable outlet in the second location. If you've already installed splitters or cabling, a technician will perform quality assurance tests to make sure it's operational.
Network Architecture:
Will speed suffer as the CMA membership increases?
No. The CMA Network is shared, however, since it is scalable, we add extra capacity as more members join.
